Curves, twists, bends and corners all have a dramatic effect on the emotion of a photograph. The graceful, enveloping twine of the vine above indicates a bond; be it either of life or strangling, the determined plant holds on to what it's got. Also vital to setting off any angle, curve, or contour, is the importance of a simple and relatively unattractive background. The backdrop doesn't need to be a flat style or surface, but merely something that does not detract from the central focus of the photograph.
